CHAMBERS

Just before Washingtonians experienced their first statewide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic I began photographing at Chamber’s Creek Regional Park.

Located Southeast of Tacoma along the Puget Sound shoreline, the concrete structures within the park were once part of a facility which mined gravel for use in constructing several local military installations during the late 19th century.

The land was occupied by the Steilacoom Native American tribe before mining operations began.

Photographing amidst the pandemic and being aware of the area’s history of colonialism and militarization, I find myself relating the concrete monoliths to Grecian ruins and ancient pyramids- artifacts of collapsed civilizations.

I’m still adding to this body of work.
